Bharti Kashyap

Bharti Kashyap (born May 15, 1967) is an Indian campaigning ophthalmologist. She was awarded the Nari Shakti award in 2017. She is known for conducting free eye surgery and for improving women's health.

Life

Kashyap was born in 1967. She is qualified as an physician and ophthalmologist. She is known for her work in conducting eye surgery and for improving women's health. She has led campaigns to encourage more people to donate their organs after death. She created the first post mortem eye donation in Jhankhand. She set up an eye bank, the first in Bihar Jharkhand, which in 2020 had permitted 482 free cornea replacements to be carried out at the Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, where she is the medical director.[1]

On International Women's Day in 2015 she was honoured by Raghubar Das who was the chief minister in Jharkaland. She was recognised for her contribution to women's health.[2]

She was given the Nari Shakti Puraskar award in 2017. The award was made by the President of India at the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan). Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present.[3]

In 2018 she celebrated winning awards from the Indian Medical Association for three years in a row.[4]

In 2019 she spoke in Paris about intraocular lenses which can be embedded in a patients eyes after cataract surgery to remove the need to wear corrective glasses after the operation.[5]


Family

She is married to Dr. Birendra Prasad Kashyap who founded the Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital in Ranchi.[6]
