Beacon Academy was preceded by Holy Family Catholic Academy (HFCA) (2013–2017), which was preceded by St Andrew’s College (2010–2013), which had been created from merging Matthew Humberstone C of E School and St Mary’s Catholic High School in 2010.

History

Holy Family Catholic Academy (HFCA)[1] was preceded by St Andrew’s College, a joint church school that opened in September 2010 following the amalgamation of Matthew Humberstone School and St Mary’s Catholic High School, based at the Matthew Humberstone Upper site on Chatsworth Place.[2]

HCFS opened in September 2013, after St Andrew’s College was closed in July 2013. HCFA achieved academy status before opening, and was sponsored by the Nottingham Roman Catholic Diocese Education Service (NRCDES).

It closed in July 2017, and the Beacon Academy, sponsored by the Wellspring Academy Trust, opened on the site.[3][4]

Ofsted ratings

Both predecessor schools to St Andrew’s College (Humberstone and St Mary's) were supported by the National Challenge and were deemed to be Grade 3 schools in their last Ofsted Section 5 inspection reports, in 2009 and 2007 respectively.

HFCA was judged "Good" in all four categories inspected under the Ofsted framework in its first inspection in June 2015.[5] A short inspection on 6 February 2019 reported some issues, but its status remained as Good[6]
