Beach Cities Transit

Beach Cities Transit provides mass transportation for the Los Angeles beach city suburbs of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and El Segundo. The two routes provide both local service and afford a variety of opportunities to connect with the rest of the Greater Los Angeles Transportation grid. The system began in 2005. Route 104 which it took over from Torrance Transit (linking Redondo Beach and Torrance) was cancelled in 2011 due to low ridership.[1]

Service runs daily and travels exclusively through Redondo Beach city limits. The route begins at Redondo Beach Station on the LACMTA Green Line light rail system. The route continues south through the heart of Redondo Beach and serves the South Bay Galleria and the Beach Cities Hospital, before terminating at the transfer center at the Redondo Beach pier. This line was created when Metro Local line 215 was shortened back to Redondo Beach Station.[2]

The backbone of the system, this route travels north from the pier and serves the major residential and commercial areas of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and El Segundo each day of the week. Connections are then provided to Plaza El Segundo and the University of West Los Angeles. The Aviation/LAX Station on the light rail's Green Line can also be reached, and the route terminates at the major transit center known as the LAX City Bus Center.[3] This line was created when Metro Express line 439 was shortened to Aviation Station.
