Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio

Bath Township is one of the twelve townships of Allen County, Ohio, United States. The 2010 census found 9,725 people in the unincorporated parts of the township, outside the city of Lima.[3]

Located in the center of the county, it borders the following townships:

Part of the city of Lima, the county seat of Allen County, is located in southwestern Bath Township.

Name and history

Statewide, other Bath Townships are located in Greene and Summit counties.[4]

Bath Township was the first permanent settlement within the present day bounds of Allen County. The first settlers in the township were Christopher S. Wood and his family, who settled in section 7 of Bath Township in 1824.[5] The organization of Bath Township predates that of Allen County itself, with its first township meeting held on March 2, 1829.

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[8] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees. The current chairperson is Roy A. Hollenbacher.

Schools

Bath Township is serviced by one school district, Bath Local School District. The district contains an elementary school, a junior high school, and a high school.
