Total 18 locomotives of this class were manufactured by Hitachi, Japan in 1982 and classified as MEH-24,[1] where M = Meter Gauge, E = Diesel-electric, H = Hitachi and 24 = 24×100 hp = 2,400 hp. The model of these locomotives is HFA13A.[2][3] Currently 17 locomotives are active.[4]

Classification and numbering

Total 18 locomotives are numbered from 2501 to 2518 and specified as 'MEH-14', where M = Meter-gauge, E = Diesel-electric, H = Hitachi and 14 = 14×100 hp = 1,400 hp.

Usage

Class 2500 locomotives are generally used on most short-distant local and commuter trains and on some long-distant express trains. They are rarely used for inter-city trains and not used for freight trains.

Liveries

Class 2500 locos initially had red color with white stripes. Then it was replaced by green-yellow livery.

Maintenance

Class 2500 locos are maintained at Dhaka and Lalmonirhat rail divisions.
