Practice areas

Ballard Spahr has a real estate practice in the United States, encompassing virtually all aspects of real estate finance, conveyancing, construction, and development. The firm's largest department is its litigation department. The firm also works in mergers and acquisitions, securities and other areas of corporate law, including the representation of sports franchises. The firm has also represented government entities in the issuance of municipal bonds and other tax-exempt instruments.[3] The firm also practices in the areas of labor & employment, insurance law, environmental law, tax law and other related sub-disciplines.[4]

In 2008, Ballard Spahr acquired the Atlanta-based intellectual property boutique firm of Needle & Rosenberg.[5]

In 2013, Ballard Spahr announced a partnership with New York City-based firm of Stillman & Friedman [6]

In 2017, the firm opened an office in Boulder, Colorado adding a group of attorneys focused on corporate and securities, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, and strategic transactional matters.

In 2017, the firm merged with First Amendment litigation boutique Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, which was folded into Ballard Spahr's national media and entertainment law practice.

On January 1, 2018, the firm merged with Minneapolis-based law firm Lindquist & Vennum [7]
