Aussie Gold Hunters

Aussie Gold Hunters is an Australian factual television show that follows hard-core crews of gold prospectors in Western Australia, Australia. The series is produced by Electric Pictures and began on the Foxtel Discovery Channel on 15 September 2016 with 8 episodes.[1] The second season had 10 episodes and the third season had 13 episodes.[2][3] It has aired in over 130 countries and territories around the world including the UK.

Season 5 premiered in Australia on 30 April 2020 with 20 episodes planned around seven teams of prospectors.[4] Two teams from earlier seasons (the "Victoria Diggers" and "Gold Gypsies") are joined by five new teams.[4]

Staged scenes

Contrary to the factual television claim, staged 'robbery' and 'lost' scenes are sometimes used to build up hype. [5]

  • Ted and Lecky Mahoney (Season 2-3) joined by daughter Tyler (Season 4); Tyler would later go on to star in season 4 of Gold Rush: Parker's Trail, a similar show on U.S. TV, season 4 set in Aus.[6]
