Alcañices

Alcañices (Portuguese: Alcanizes) is a small town in the province of Zamora, Spain. It is very close to the Portugal-Spain border, not far from the Portuguese town of Bragança.

The border checkpoint on the Portugal-Spain border

On September 12, 1297 the Treaty of Alcañices was signed in Alcañices between Portugal and Castile. This treaty established the current border between Portugal and Spain which is one of the oldest borders in Europe.
