Abbas Ansari

Abbas Ansari (born 12 February 1992) is an Indian shooter, in shotgun shooting.[1] Abbas has won gold medals in International shooting competitions[2] and now he will also contest from Ghosi on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)'s ticket for UP election.[3] He is the elder son of Mukhtar Ansari who is currently the MLA from Mau.[4]

Earlier UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had welcomed young candidates, a new generation for politicians. However, after Akhilesh Yadav breaking up ties with Quami Ekta Dal, Abbas choose to continue his political career with Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) along with his father and uncle.

Abbas is a young management graduate and also an active sportsman; he is a three-time national champion in shooting and has represented India in many international events. He is said to be different image then of his father and he has been promoting actively in the districts where his former party Quami Ekta Dal wields significant influence. Now, Quami Ekta Dal has merged with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Abbas Ansari will now contest on the BSP symbol.[5]

Background

Abbas Ansari has a very rich background when it comes to his family history, he is the great grandson to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari[6] who was an Indian nationalist and political leader, and former president of the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League during the Indian Independence Movement. One of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia University he remained its Chancellor 1928 to 1936.[7]

Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari's grand nephew Mohammad Hamid Ansari is the 12th and the former Vice President of India, in office since 2007. Ansari is the only person to get re-elected for the post of Vice President of India after Dr. Radhakrishnan.[8] He also presently serves as President of the Indian Institute of Public Administration and Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Abbas's father Mukhtar Ansari, uncle Afzal Ansari and Sibakatullah Ansari have been very active in Indian politics and have held various position in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.[9]
