Built in 1730, it is important as a surviving example embodying "the characteristics of early Georgian style domestic architecture that became prominent in the Colonies beginning in the mid-18th century" and also for its association with Col. Aaron Barlow, Joel Barlow, and General Israel Putnam, all significant local figures in the American Revolutionary War.[2]
