Election 2020
The 2020 Gilgit Baltistan Assembly election will be held on or before 24 September 2020 to elect the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The current assembly term will end on 24 June 2020,[1][2][3] after which elections should be held within 90 days,[4] although this is uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Timeline
- In 2015, the Pakistan Muslim League (N), led by former Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif, won the elections. The party successfully formed a government without the assistance of any other parties. Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman was elected as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.[5][6]
- On 30 April 2020, the Supreme Court of Pakistan allowed the federal government to form a caretaker government and hold a general election in Gilgit-Baltistan.[7]
- On 23 June 2020, the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly is dissolved after completion of full 5 year term.[8]
