2016 Shelbourne F.C. season

In 2016 Shelbourne F.C. are competing in the League of Ireland First Division for the third successive season following two failed attempts at promotion having finished fourth in the previous season. This season is currently commencing. Kevin Doherty continued on as manager for the second consecutive season. The squad had been significantly renewed over the previous season after many transfers were brought in. Doherty stepped down on mutual grounds with the club in June before former Shelbourne captain Owen Heary took over as the new manager.

  • Shelbourne beat Cabinteely 5-0 in the first round.
  • Shelbourne beat Bohemians 4-3 on penalties after finishing 0-0 after extra-time in the second round.
  • Shelbourne lost to Shamrock Rovers on penalties (2-3) after the game ended 1-1 at Tolka Park on May 2 in the Quarter-Finals.

Leinster Senior Cup

Shelbourne lost to Dundalk F.C. in the second round of the Leinster Senior Cup.
