Sacramento State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The Hornets were led by third-year head coach Dave Strong. They played home games at Charles C. Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, California. The team finished the season with a record of three wins, five losses and one tie (3–5–1, 1–4 FWC).
