The Zote are a tribe of the Hmar people. They speak a language called the Zote language.

Origin

Genealogically, the Zote tribe is the Head of all Hmar tribes. They are the descendants of the eldest son of Chawnbul and Chawnkip who are the descendants of Nelvan, the eldest of the seven patrilineal lines of the Hmar people

Ancestral place

The Zote tribe regard the Champhai region of Mizoram as their ancestral land which their ancestors had been occupying since 1400s A.D. Eg: Zote village

Current settlements

The Zote tribe is spread throughout the Zo country. Some of their villages are Rengkai village, Leisen village, etc
