Zawada [zaˈvada] (German Sowade, since 1936 Hinterwasser) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Turawa, within Opole County, Opole Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.[1] It lies approximately 7 kilometres (4 mi) south-west of Turawa and 7 km (4 mi) north-east of the regional capital Opole.
Before 1945 the area was part of Germany (see Territorial changes of Poland after World War II). The city is bilungual, German and Polish. The official German name used for the city is "Sowade".
The village has a population of 1,200.
