Zaida, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Zaida is a large village situated in the Swabi District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.[1] It is located at 34°4'0″N 72°28'0E with an altitude of 306 metres (1007 feet).[2] It has been the centre of Aba Khel subtribe of Mandanr Yousafzai along with Hund.

History

Zaida is one of the oldest trading centres of the area and its bazaar is one of the oldest in the district. The history of Zaida dates back to the pre-Islamic era. In Zaida there is a place known locally as "Derai Shah" which is considered one of the oldest places in all of Swabi district.

DERAI SHAH: Derai shah which means "behind the heap" is so-called due to it being hidden behind the garbage heaps of the now developed old ground known as the open ground or locally "barai".

Recent events

  • Local government, elections and Rural Development Department (Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa).[3]
    • On 30 May 2015, local government elections were held peacefully at Zaida city and Riaz Ali Shah was selected as member Union Council[4]
  • Pakistan Air Force training aircraft crashed[5] in Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
    • On Monday 25, 2015 at 10:17 AM, a training aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force crashed in Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province; both pilots of the aircraft ejected safely but sustained injuries. PAF spokesperson Air Commodore SM ALi said that a K-8 trainer aircraft was destroyed when it crashed during a training mission in Zaida village of KP's Swabi district. No loss of civilian life or property was reported on the ground as plan landed in open fields. Pictures
