Z111 Factory

The Z111 Factory is located in Thanh Hoá, Vietnam.[1] It produces small arms for the People's Army of Vietnam. The factory is directed by the General Department of Defence Industry.[2]

The Z111 Factory is also charged with producing the Galil ACE, a modern Israeli assault rifle which is now the current standard-issue assault rifle of People's Army of Vietnam, under IWI license.[3] The factory has also produced the M18, a Vietnamese copy of the CAR-15, since 2010[4][5] and the KSVK.[6]

History

The first non-communist weapon to be made/refurbished in Z111 Factory is the M18, a Vietnamese copy of the CAR-15 since 2010.[5][4] They are known to be used by Vietnamese special forces personnel and officers from the Vietnam Coast Guard.[7]

Jane's reported on February 3, 2014 that IWI entered into an agreement with Vietnam to produce the Galil ACE under license.[3] Production was made in a joint production facility.[8]

An updated version of the K-54[lower-alpha 1] as the K14-VN is made with an increased capacity of 13 rounds, with a wider grip to incorporate a double stack magazine.[9][10] Research and development started in 2001.[11] The K14-VN began to see service with PAVN forces on May 10, 2014.[12]

In 2015, Z111 Factory announced that upgrades were made to the AKM by changing parts of used AKMs with new plastic handguards, folding buttstock, ergonomic pistol grip and updated muzzle brake resemlbling the AK-74 with an attachement lug for use with a M203 grenade launcher known as the STL-1A.[13][14] A future upgrade, known as the STL-1B, will include picatinny rails since the 1A uses a side-type attachment.[14]

In January 2018, the OSV-96 is reported to be made under license in Vietnam.[15]

Notes

  1. The K-54 is a clone of the Tokarev TT-33 made in Vietnam.
