The Yerevan Drums (Armenian:Երեւանյան հարվածային գործիքներ) is a musical group based in Yerevan, Armenia. Pavel Sargsyan was the founder and is the current head of the Yerevan Drums, with Emma Ohanyan being the artistic director of the group. The Yerevan Drums was founded in 2009 during the celebrations of Yerevan's 2,791st anniversary. The group's founders include Pavel Sargsyan, Gagik Beglaryan, and Ruben Jaghinyan. The band currently comprises 2 art directors and 13 drummers, who were selected from musical and public schools in Yerevan. The drummers are teenage girls from 15–25 years old who have a musical education. The performers received choreographic and musical training by world-class experts Alexander Harkavy and Sergei Bravarnyuk.
Participation in events
In 2014 and 2017, the Yerevan Drums performed together with the Band of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia at Spasskaya Tower Military Music Festival and Tattoo in Moscow.[1] From April 19–25, 2015, the group took part in an international percussion festival in Cairo, Egypt.
Since 2009, the Yerevan Drums has taken part in almost all events related to the anniversaries of the City of Yerevan and the Independence Day of Armenia. In recent years, the group also has represented Armenia in the Delphic Games, the Aram Khachaturian International Competition, Young Eurasia forum, etc.[2][3]
