Synopsis

The plot revolves around a Kuttanadu girl (Ponnu), who was staying at a hostel in the city ofKochi to study. She was the daughter of Balan (Kalabhavan Mani) and Indira (Reena Basheer). Her roommate Sandra, keeps insisting she meets her Aunty. Deeply involved in studies, Ponnu ignores Sandra's requests. Balan used to come to the city to meet his daughter occasionally.

Balan's friend Maniyappan(Sadiq) handed him a mobile phone as a gift to Ponnu. In return, Ponnu was gifted with a new mobile by Aunty. Ponnu was informed about Sanju, who was Aunty's nephew and also expressed his interest to marry Ponnu. Going by her words Ponnu falls for Sanju. Sanju has deep care and affection for Ponnu. He is also willing to marry her once her studies are completed. Ponnu has a leisure time with Sanju and Sandra outside her hostel.

When Balan comes to a hostel to handle the mobile, Ponnu asks him to keep off from visiting her so frequently, which hurts Balan. She also refrains from taking the mobile from Balan, stating that she is not willing to stand against her father's wish by using mobile. Balan returns dejected.

Ponnu is taken to her aunt's house by Sandra, to meet Sanju's father. She was molested there by the person claiming to be Sanju's father. Having no one where else to go, she is forced to continue prostitution led by Aunty, in order to not to lose Sanju. Sanju is unaware of this arrangement.

During one such activity, she is caught red-handed by police. Maniyappan's friend who is in police secretly informs him about the incident. Maniyappan takes Balan to the police station to identify that its Ponnu. Balan takes her home asking her to discontinue her studies.

Balan plans to get her married to a local guy, despite opposition from his wife Indira. After seeking permission from her mother, Ponnu leaves her house and reaches a hostel. On her way, she finds out that Sanju is not related to Aunty by any means. Balan also reaches the hotel to take her home forcefully. Ponnu resists, causing a scene.

Immediately, the police arrive, asking the cause for the confusion. Sandra claims that Balan keeps on molesting Ponnu at her house, which is why she is unwilling to go with him. Police take both of them to custody.

The next day, newspapers publish Balan's story as narrated by Sandra, and Balan soon owns a poor image among his native people. Indira leaves his house to stay with her siblings. After getting bail, Balan is accompanied by Maniyappan to his house. On the way, he is treated very badly by his native people. He is also shocked to see that his wife,Indira too has left him. Unable to bear all the humiliations, he hangs himself in the tree.
