Yandy.com is an American online retailer and fashion design company focusing on lingerie, swimwear, Halloween costumes, and women’s apparel. In 2016 Yandy held the first ever Halloween costume fashion show at New York Fashion Week.

History

Yandy.com is an online women’s intimates apparel retailer, originally based out of the residence of its co-founders.[1] The company was founded in 2007[2] by Chad Horstman and his brother Evan[3] in Scottsdale, Arizona.[4] By 2018 the company employed over 80 full-time employees and boasts a 30,000 square foot warehouse.[5]

Chad Horstman served as the company’s CEO from its founding until 2017 and remains a member of the company's Board of Directors.[6] In October 2017, the company elevated its CTO Aras Koktas and CFO Jeffrey Watton to hold Co-CEO titles.

When Yandy.com began they sold exclusively lingerie but expanded to Halloween costumes in their first year. In 2010, the company began selling its own branded costumes.[7] The company now creates lingerie, everyday intimates,[8][9] Halloween costumes,[10] swimwear,[11] and other women’s apparel.[12] As a part of its lingerie collection, it has produced a line of princess lingerie sets.[8] Halloween costumes have included looks inspired by political figures,[13] celebrities,[14] memes,[15][16] cultural events,[17] and popular culture trends,[18][19] along with some more common Halloween themes.[1][20] Yandy.com also carries plus-sized products.[21]

Yandy.com Vice President of Merchandising, Pilar Quintana-Williams, has over 10 years of merchandise experience in the lingerie field and is responsible for Yandy.com's exclusive collections.[22]

Apparel

Lingerie

Yandy.com carries over 5,000 lingerie related products ranging from sizes X-Small to 6X. They carry popular styles such as babydolls, teddies, chemises, bra sets, everyday bras, and panties. In addition to basic lingerie, Yandy.com dives deeper into the sexy realm with a wide variety of crotchless designs, open cup styles, lingerie costumes, and vinyl and latex pieces. One third of the lingerie products are available in plus size, and a number of styles are produced exclusively for plus size.

Halloween Costumes

Yandy.com currently carries over 2,000 Halloween products and accessories.[23] [24]

Brave Red Maiden Costume

In September 2018, Yandy.com introduced a costume they called "Brave Red Maiden" which had clearly been designed as a "sexy" knockoff from The Handmaid's Tale. Several news sources picked up the story and criticized the choice to create and sell this costume.[25][26][27][28][29] Yandy.com quickly withdrew the costume from their site and issued an apology.[30]

Native American Costumes

Yandy.com has offered costumes stereotyping Native Americans since it began selling Halloween products and accessories. Despite the criticism from Native American leaders and news sources calling the costumes offensive, Yandy.com CFO Jeff Watton says the company will not stop selling these types of costumes, as long as they make money.[31]

Swimwear

Yandy.com carries over 700 individual swimwear products ranging from sizes X-Small to 3X. In May of 2017 it was announced that Yandy.com became the official swimwear sponsor of 2017 Miss USA Competition.[32]

Fashion shows and partnerships

Fashion Shows

Yandy.com’s swimwear collections have been shown at New York Fashion Week,[33] Miami Swim Week,[34] and Scottsdale Fashion Week.[35] The company also produced the first ever Halloween costume fashion show at New York Fashion Week in September 2016.[36][37] The show, staged at Pier 59 Studios,[38] featured 39 different costumes designed by the company.[39]

Partnerships

In 2017, Yandy.com became the swimsuit sponsor for the 2017 Miss USA Pageant, providing the swimsuits for each of the competition’s contestants. The company later sold each design online through its website. The swimsuits were each designed by Pilar Quintana-Williams, the company’s vice-president of merchandising.[11] In July of 2017, the company received official licensing for their Baywatch swimwear collection.[40] The three styles were designed by Pilar Quintana-Williams, who incorporated the movie silhouettes with current swim fashions.[41]
