Widen is a software company.[1] Founded in 1948 as a plate-engraving business, it developed into a digital print company, and eventually into a software company.

History

The company was founded in 1948 by the eponymous Emily and Arthur Widen as a private plate engraving business focused on newspaper presses. In 1985 the company began focusing on color printing, and scanning. By the mid-1990s, Widen began investing in digital printing services as well as software services over the Internet, developing into an image database system.[2] It is now a SaaS digital asset management company.[3] The company changed its name from Widen Colourgraphics, Ltd. to Widen Enterprises in 1997.[4] The company is headquartered in Monona, Wisconsin.[5] It has been ranked by Comparably as one of the top SMEs in the United States in terms of management.[6]

Software

Widen’s CEO is Matthew Gonnering,[7] though the company has renamed the position Chief Eudaimonia Officer to reflect the philosophy of his management style.[8][9] He was appointed in 2009 and transitioned the company from largely a prepress and printing company to a software firm.[10] Widen software focuses on digital asset management,[11][12] which houses corporate information and helps to develop digital projects like websites, advertising, and cataloguing. [13] For example, Widen’s cloud software hosts corporate information for companies like Brooks Running Shoes.[7] Widen provides services for both public services and private companies.[13][14]
