Whitley Secondary School (abbreviation: WSS) is a coeducational government secondary school located in Bishan, Singapore.

History

The school was originally located at Whitley Road, and was officially opened on 1 October 1965.[1] In March 1992, the school was relocated to Bishan at a cost of S$16 million.[2]

In 2006, the school celebrated its 40th anniversary and had its first musical gala followed by a musical festival night. On 22 October, the school organized a carnival where goods and art pieces were sold to raise funds for the major renovation of the Bishan campus.

The school was temporarily located at 430 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 from 2006 to 2007.

Identity

The demonym of the students is "Whitleyans".

House System

The students are grouped into four houses: Taurus, Capricorn, Leo and Sagittarius. These houses compete in the school's Annual Sports Day, Cross-Country Championships and Inter-house Games. The houses are represented by different colors:

  • Taurus - red
  • Capricorn - blue
  • Leo - yellow
  • Sagittarius - green

For physical activities, students are required to be in school attire. Students are not allowed to change houses or represent another house in sports activities. Whitley is printed on the back of the shirt.

The school has an indoor Sports Hall that is used for artistic gymnastics (trampoline). It is used for physical education lessons and CCA.

Design and technology rooms

Two floors of design and technology (D&T) rooms are available for D&T projects. Students are not allowed to enter without the supervision of a teacher.
