Wafande Pierre Jolivel Zahor (born January 21, 1983), better known by his mononym Wafande is a Danish reggae, soul singer and songwriter. He is signed to Universal Music.

Life

Wafande, born to an African father, a musician, and a Danish-French mother has roots in Denmark, France, Tanzania, Congo, Malawi and Oman. He grew up in Freetown Christiania, a neighborhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. Wafande moved with his family to France when he was 8 years old. He originally aspired to be a professional basketball player and even played for the French national youth basketball team and received a scholarship offer from an American college.[1].

Upon his return to Denmark, he decided to pursue a musical career instead of going pro as a basketball player. Wafande’s big break was in 2011 with the platinum summer #1 single ’Gi’ Mig Et Smil", produced by Pharfar and Fresh-I.
