WZZX (780 AM) was a radio station licensed to serve Lineville, Alabama. The station was owned by Williams Communications Inc. It aired an Urban music format, simulcasting sister station WFXO.[2]
The station was assigned the WZZX call letters by the Federal Communications Commission.[3]
Previously, the call sign "WZZX" was assigned to an FM station licensed to Jeffersontown, Kentucky, serving the Louisville market. With the slogan "Album Rock In Stereo", it was one of the last independent free-form album rock formats. In 1981, the format was dropped in favor of a Schulke "beautiful music" format and the calls changed to WJYL, "The Joy of Louisville".
WZZX's license was cancelled at the licensee's request by letter dated August 1, 2016, although the FCC did not receive the letter until September 26, 2017 (and, therefore, the cancellation did not occur until then).[4]
