WNS Global is a global business process management company headquartered in Mumbai, India. It has more than 34,000 professionals working in 52 "delivery centers" across the world, including India, United States, United Kingdom, China, Costa Rica, Philippines, Poland, Romania, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.Adrian T. Dillon is the Chairman of the Board and Keshav R Murugesh is the group CEO.[4]

WNS is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol WNS.[5] The company operates in two segments: WNS Global services BPM and WNS Auto Claims BPM. Its clients are primarily in the travel, banking, financial services, insurance, healthcare and utilities, retail and consumer product industries.[6]

The company’s clients include Air Canada, Icelandair, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, FirstMangus Financial, IndyMac Bank, Tesco and Travelocity, a subsidiary of Sabre Holdings.[7]

History

WNS began operations as a captive / in-house unit of British Airways in 1996 and was known as WNS World Network Services. From 300 employees in 2003, WNS has expanded to over 34,000 people today. It has 52 delivery centers across 13 different countries and services over 200 Fortune 500 companies.[8]


1999 – Launches delivery centre in Pune India.[9]

2003 – Launches Knowledge Services Business.[10]

2004 – Sets up new centres in Colombo in Sri Lanka and Gurgaon in India.[11]

2006 – Comes out with an initial public offering and is listed on the NYSE, the first Indian business process outsourcing company to be listed on the exchange. It raises about $224 million at $20 per ADS.[12]

2008 – Launches new delivery centres in the Philippines and Romania.[13]

2009 – Launches second delivery centre in the UK, and expands the one it has in the Philippines.

2010 – Sets up delivery centre in Costa Rica.[14][15]

2011 – Acquires share from JV partner and assumes full control of the Philippines centre.[16]

2012 – Sets up first delivery centre in North America to service US clients.[17] It also sets up a centre in Poland.[18]

2013 – Launches new centre in China.[19]

2014 – Launches new centre in Pennsylvania.

WNS Global Services South Africa(Pty) Ltd

WNS Global Services Holdings acquired Fusion Outsourcing Services, which was owned by the BGL Group in 2012 [20] for £10 million as part of their global expansion strategy.Johann Kunz is,[21] the Managing Director of the South African region.South Africa was seen as an important acquisition due to its growth and capabilities in the outsourcing industry. It is a favourable offshoring destination for UK, Europe and Australian markets due to its competitive price point of between 45%-50%,[22] cultural affinity to the UK,US and Australian markets, well established infrastructure, large English speaking talent pool, time zone friendliness and business enabling environment supported by government incentives.[23]

Proprietary platforms and offerings

WNS has developed technology-enabled platforms like WNS-Verifare, WNS-Jade, WNS-Dynamic Discount Manager and WNS-ProClaim.[24] As a part of its analytics offerings, WNS has developed WNS Analytics Decision Engine, WADESM[25] and ProGenieSM[26] – a proprietary tool to help online visitors navigate the website.

Adrian T. Dillion is the chairman of the Board of Directors at WNS. He is currently a Member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Audit and Finance Committees of Williams-Sonoma, Inc, a specialty retailer of home products.[27][28] Keshav Murugesh is the CEO. He is responsible for executing the business strategy and directing the overall performance and growth of the organization. Murugesh has held several leadership positions in global companies, including President and CEO, Syntel Inc, and ITC Ltd, an affiliate of BAT Plc.[29]

Key Projects

Some of the key projects of WNS include:

  • A $300 million contract from Australian insurance major Suncorp to WNS along with Genpact for end-to-end insurance outsourcing.[30]
  • A back-office contract from Mashreq, one of the largest banks in the United Arab Emirates.[31]

Financial Results

In fiscal 2016, WNS made net revenues of $531.0 million, which represented 5.6% year-over-year growth or 11% on a constant currency basis. This top line improvement, coupled with operating and profit margin expansion, helped the company increase its adjusted net income to $103.0 million or $1.92 per diluted share.[32]

Acquisitions

  • 2003: WNS acquires Town & Country Assistance Limited; a UK-based automobile claims handling company, thereby extending beyond the travel industry to include insurance-based automobile claims processing.
  • 2004: Takes over the health claims management business of Greensnow.
  • 2006: Makes three key acquisitions. It acquired Trinity Partners Inc, a provider of BPO services to financial institutions, the fare audit services business from PRG Airlines; and the financial accounting business from GHS Holdings LLC.
  • 2007: Acquires Marketics, a provider of offshore analytics services.
  • 2008: Acquires Accidents Happen Assistance Limited, or AHA (formerly known as Call 24-7); BizAps, a provider of systems applications and products; and finally Aviva Global Services.
  • 2011: Acquires shares from JV partner and assumed full control of the Philippines centre.[33]
  • 2012: Takes over Fusion Outsourcing Services in South Africa.[34]
  • 2016: WNS acquired Denali Sourcing Services, an industry leader in procurement and sourcing.
  • 2017: WNS acquires Houston based HealthHelp, an industry leader in care management.
