WEEC (100.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Christian format. Licensed to Springfield, Ohio, United States, it serves the Miami Valley area as its second oldest Christian radio station (WFCJ-FM 93.7 in Dayton went on-air January 7, 1961). The station is founded and owned by World Evangelistic Enterprise Corporation and as of September 2007, it now broadcasts in the HD Radio format; The HD does not stand for "High Definition" or "Hybrid Digital".[1] Its new studios and offices along with its transmitter are located on Troy Road (State Route 41) in Springfield, almost directly across the highway from its original location a mile northwest of the Upper Valley Mall. The original transmitting tower is currently in use by W244BR (96.7 mHz), the Springfield translator of parent station WYDA the Troy/Dayton affiliate of K-LOVE.

History

WEEC was formed in March 1961 by Paul Pontus, Dwight Coffelt, and Rev. Glenn Greenwood and first hit the airwaves on December 15 later that same year at first as a commercial station. However, all commercial programming was eliminated just one year later on December 15, 1962.

The station is now entirely supported by free-will contributions. An annual fundraiser is held each March, to raise pledges for the next year’s operation. The Corporation is Tax Exempt, and is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of WEEC is to glorify God by using communications technology, with excellence and integrity, to lead the lost to Jesus Christ and the Christian into a closer walk with Him.

As part of its “world” outreach, the ministry provides partial monthly support for two missionary families, both involved with international broadcasting and communications. The Corporation is governed by a Board of Trustees, all of whom donate their time. World Evangelistic Enterprise Corporation is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, and audited financial statements are available upon request.[2]

WEEC began broadcasting in HD in September 2007.[3]

On February 13, 2008, WEEC became a part of Strong Tower Christian Media which includes WFCJ-FM 93.7. According to a Dayton Daily News story dated July 16, 2012, WEEC announced it would move its studios to Xenia in 2013. The move would enable WEEC and WFCJ to share resources while maintaining the integrity of the ministry and retain their respective broadcast audiences.

Today, WEEC airs Christian teaching programs by acclaimed Bible teachers such as James MacDonald, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Alistair Begg, Charles Stanley, and Chuck Swindoll. Local on-air personalities Ryan Freed and Daryl Pierce.[4]
