WCAD (105.7 FM) is a non-commercial FM radio station licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, United States. The station serves the Puerto Rico area. The station is currently owned by Educational Media Foundation and carries network programming from K-LOVE, EMF's main Contemporary Christian music network.

The station is relayed through booster stations, WCAD-FM1 in Fajardo and WCAD-FM2 in Juana Diaz, both operating at 105.7 FM.

History

WCAD then was known as WKVM-FM, since the station's inception on July 25, 1978. On that day begin operations, The first FM station dedicated to Rock in Puerto Rico, Alfa Rock. It is founded by American Colonial Broadcasting (a subsidiary of Pérez Perry Enterprises), later was changed to Broadcasting & Programming Systems of Puerto Rico.

Sale to Educational Media Foundation

On July 24, 2017, it was announced that the Educational Media Foundation was buying WCAD and its Boosters for $2.9 million. The station will be EMF's first located in a US Territory and will switch to the company's K-Love network.[1]On September 20, 2017, WCAD went off the air due to the threat of Hurricane Maria across the island and the sale of the station to EMF was approved by the FCC, awaiting the consummation and will convert to a non-commercial educational radio station.[2]

On March 3, 2018 at 12:06 AM, Alfa Rock ended broadcasting after nearly 40 years as an Album Oriented Rock station. The final song on Alfa Rock was "The Perfectionist" by Saga. The station went silent on that day, and soon WCAD will become part of the K-LOVE Network. As of March 16, 2018, WCAD is off the air. The consummation of the license modification was granted on April 30, 2018. After one year, The sale of WCAD was completed on July 16, 2018.

In 2017, the station's transmitter site was heavily damaged by Hurricane Maria. As of July 2018, the station remains off the air until repairs can be made.

Some of the Alfa Rock programming and DJs Pedro Dávila, Jose Sanz and Fred Virella was moved to an online radio station, AZ Rock. AZ Rock is wholly owned by PH Entertainment Group and still airs an AOR format and programming.
