Vivien Keszthelyi (born 7 December 2000[1]) is a Hungarian Grand Touring racing driver, who started her career at the age of 13.[2][3] As a member of the Audi Sport Racing Academy, the young talent has already achieved 3 touring car championship titles.[4][5][6]

The Debrecen-born driver’s interest in car racing started at the age of four, when she preferred electric cars instead of traditional games played by girls. After the first race she watched live, she decided that racing was going to be her life.[2] She started her professional career in 2014, in the Swift Cup Europe series.[7][8] As a result of two successful years, she became the youngest and only female member of Audi Sport Racing Academy in the fall of 2015, also becoming the first Hungarian racing driver with factory connection.[9][10] In 2016, she won her first championship titles behind the wheel of an Audi TT in the Central European Zone Trophy, where she became the national champion of both the sprint (short-distance) and the endurance (long-distance) category at the age of 15.[11][12]

Her first titles were followed by two record-breaking years. In 2017, she became the youngest ever Hungarian point scorer in the international series, when she competed in the Audi TT Cup.[13][14] In 2018, in addition to her Rookie championship title, she finished as the vice-champion of the absolute table, which meant that she became the youngest female racing driver in the history of international GT4 championships, who finished the season in the top 3.[15][16]

Career

Early years

Keszthelyi didn’t train from early childhood, had never taken part in races nor did she have any experience with cars in general.[17] She started racing in the Touring Car category. Her first international race at Hungaroring brought her first place in the female rating, second place among juniors and third place among seniors.[18] At her first race of OXXO Motorsport she was the fastest female competitor at Ko-Mi Cup, and finished in 4th place in the junior category. This was her 5th time sitting in a race car.[18]

2014: Special license

In 2014, Keszthelyi competed in the Swift Cup Europe series with a special license. In the junior category she finished 3rd and in 6th place overall.[8] Suzuki Cup Austria's promoter invited her to a race, where she finished 4th in the adult men's field.[19]

2015: Fast development

In her second season in the Swift Cup Europe she finished 3rd in the absolute, 2nd in the junior and 1st in the women category.[20]

2016

In 2016, Keszthelyi competed in the national championship of FIA Central European Zone Trophy. She started the first racing weekend with two podiums.[21][22] On the last weekend of June she achieved her 50th podium finish on her 50th race after she has won all three races in her category and finished twice 2nd and once 3rd overall[23] In August she won twice in her category on the Slovakiaring and finished twice on the 2nd place in overall, moreover she sensationally won the endurance race.[24][25][26] In September she won the two sprint races in her category and in overall, and had the fastest laps on these races on the Masaryk Circuit in Brno. On the endurance race she won in her category and finished 2nd overall. With these results she won the Hungarian championship title with three races left in the season.[27] On the season ending weekend at Hungaroring she won all three sprint races and the endurance race in D-2000 category.[28] With this she achieved her 60th podium finish on her 60th race.[29]

2017

On 16 March 2017 Audi announced that Vivien Keszthelyi would drive in Audi Sport TT Cup.[30] She scored her first points in the series on 2 July 2017 at Norisring where she finished 8th.[31] In the next round at Zandvoort she finished 11th on the first race and 12th on the second respectively and scored further 16 points.[32] On the 5th round of the series at Nürburgring she was 9th on the first race but did not finish on the second due to a crash.[33] Two weeks later at Red Bull Ring she scored 9 points with finishing 10th on the first race.[34] On the season ending weekend at Hockenheim she finished 8th and 12th respectively in the last two races and finished the championship on 13th position with 65 points.[35] Earlier there was no other Hungarian racing driver who scored as many points as she in an international series at her age.[36]

In August 2017 she tested an Audi R8 LMS for the first time in her career at Audi Sport Centre, Neuburg, Germany, and also drove with the Audi RS3 LMS race car.[37]

2018

Vivien completed the 2018 season in the GT4 Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup, which was special for her, because it was the first time she competed with a rear-wheel drive race car.[38] It meant a new level for her, as the nearly 495 horsepower Audi R8 LMS GT4 with a V10, 5200 cc engine was much stronger than her previous cars.[16][39][40] In the championship the 17-year-old delivered consistent performances throughout the season.[41][42][43][44][45]

After the last race of the championship, she became the champion of the Rookie category, while she also took the 2nd position at the absolute table[16], which meant that she became the youngest female racing driver in the history of international GT4 championships, who finished the season in the top 3.[46][47]

Personal life

Keszthelyi is a sponsor of Hungarian National Committee for UNICEF and the sport ambassador of Smile Foundation (Mosoly Alapítvány).[48] She adopted a white tiger and a panda at WWF to call attention to the endangered animal species.[49]

In May 2017 she was selected into the 30 most successful under 30 year-old Hungarians by the Hungarian edition of Forbes magazine.[50] She often attends race weekends of other series such as Blancpain GT Series or ADAC GT Masters and usually appears on events held or sponsored by Audi in Hungary.[51][52]

In July 2017 she was a guest for the first time at the Hungarian round of Formula Student East international series for university students in Örkény, where she was invited by a Dutch team to test their own-built racing car.[53]

On the 2017 Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix she was invited as a guest from Red Bull Racing F1 Team.[54]

She is always invited for the Great Run street racing parade which is held since 2012 in the heart of Budapest on 1 May.[55]

In October 2017 she joined the Dare to be Different (#D2BD) programme what is inspired by Susie Wolff and intended to help young women and girls who dream of their future in any field of motorsport, either as a driver, as a competition engineer, or as a team leader.[56][57]

In December 2017 she became the youngest helicopter-pilot in Hungarian history [58]
