Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar


Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar is a former State Minister of Water Resources in the Government of Maharashtra in India.[1] He is leader from the Indian National Congress Party. He is one of the most influential[2] leaders of Indian National Congress in Naxalite infected area of Chandrapur.

Political career

Political background:

  • 1980-1981: Started political career as a Grass root level worker with NSUI
  • 1991-1993: Z.P. Counselor of Zilla Parishad Gadchiroli Maharashtra.
  • 1996-1998: Chairman of Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra Undertaking.
  • 1998-2004: Member of Legislative Council Maharashtra (M.L.C.)
  • 2004-2009: Member of Legislative Assembly Maharashtra (M.L.A.) from Chimur Constituency
  • 2008-2009: Minister of State for Irrigation, Tribal Welfare, Environment and Forest
  • 2009-2010: Re-elected as M.L.A. from Chimur, Constituency with a margin of 30500 votes
  • 2009-2010 Nov.: Minister of State for Irrigation, Energy, Finance & Planning Parliamentary Affairs, in the Ministry headed by Ashok Chavan
  • 2010-2011: Chairman District Central Co-Operative Bank Chandrapur Maharashtra
  • 2008-2011: Director of Maharashtra State Co-Operative Bank, Ltd. Mumbai, Maharashtra
  • 2014–present: Elected as M.L.A. from Congress (I) 73-Bramhapuri Constituency by 15,000 votes. Bramhapuri constituency had BJP and Independent MLA since 1980 to 2014 (34 years).

Political contributions to the Indian National Congress

  • In the last Loksabha election responsibility of Gadchiroli- Chimur Parliamentary Consultancy entrusted by the Party and accordingly ensured victory of Congressional candidate Marotrao Kovase although Nitin Gadkari, National President of BJP, personally campaigned very hard for his party’s candidate.
  • In last Assembly Election 2009 the party had entrusted the responsibility of Gadchiroli, Armori, Rajura, Warora, Tumsar, Amgaon and Chimur, Constituency and accordingly successfully did duty in getting all the Congressional candidates elected from the above Constituencies.
  • In the District Central Co-operative Bank Election 2007-08 worked hard to obtain the Chairman Position for the Congressional candidate Sanjay Dongre. Subsequently in 2008-09 and 2009-10 the Congressional candidate Ravi Shinde and Digamber Patil Gurpude have been occupying the position. Chandrapur District Central Co-operative Bank was under the NCP and BJP control for the last 10 to 15 years.
  • The Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad was ruled by Shivsena-BJP for last 10 years. In the 2009 election took all the challenges and brought the Zilla Parishad of Gadchiroli under Congress Flag.
  • All the APMC’s of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur District were ruled by BJP-NCP for last 10 years. Brought all most all the APMC’s under Congress rule.
  • Ensured victory of Vijay Deotale as a Vice President of Bombay APMC
  • In the Gadchiroli, Bramhapuri and Desaigand Nagar Parishad election entrusted responsibility of assembly seats and successfully stanched the ruler ship from BJP-SHIVSENA & NCP and brought under the control of Congress.
  • Bagged about 90% Grampanchayats of Bramhapuri, Sindewahi, Saoli, Chimur, Nagbhid Tahsils of Chandrapur Districts under the flag of Congress Party.
  • In last Bhandara Dist Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Election 2015 party had entrusted the responsibility of all Bhandara Dist Zilla Parishad & Panchayat Samiti Constituency & accordingly successfully did duty in getting all the Congress Candidates elected from the above Constituencies.
  • The Bhandara Zilla Parishad was ruled by Shivsena-BJP for the last 10 years. In the 2015 election took all the challenges and brought the Zilla Parishad of Bhandara under Congress Flag.
  • Bagged about 95% Sahakari societies of Bramhapuri, Sindewahi, Saoli, Chimur, Nagbhid Tahsils of Chandrapur Districts under the flag of Congress Pa

Other social, educational, and cultural work done by Wadettiwar:

  • Worked for the development of poor, backward and tribal people by becoming associated with various social societies
  • First International Marathi Film Festival "My Boli" at Nagpur was successfully organized and conducted
  • Organized and arranged awareness camp and activities to spread out and instill the thought of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj through distribution of various books and publications like Gramgeeta
  • Organized various camps towards help and betterment of poor, needy and weak people
  • Development and research of agriculture and agriculturists
  • Fought for the rights of farmers, farm, labour and forest tribes
  • The stipend received from the Govt. is utilized for providing free books and stationary to the school students.
  • Arranged for four thousand couples Samuhik Vivah (mass marriage ceremony) for just one rupee
  • Solved the problems of rural and unemployed youth
  • Organized eye camps and eye operations at various places and distributed glasses to the needy
  • Organized and conducted various activities and events towards the development and empowerment of women
