Vijay Bahadur Yadav

Vijay Bahadur Yadav is a member of legislative assembly from Gorakhpur Rural constituency. Formally he was a member from Maniram assembly seat in 2007-2012.[1][2][3]

Mr. Yadav in his 10 year tenure has faced no corruption charges and has been fairly active in the legislative assembly. He has been credited for allotment of university status to Madan Mohan Malaviya University of technology also he has raised the issue of encephalitis continuously and has secured funds for construction of new ward in Gorakhpur Medical college.[4]

Vijay Bahadur Yadav is also a known for his social activism. He organizes group marriage events to abolish the practice of dowry and is founder of Non-for -profit college Ganga Jamuna Mahavidyalaya in Gorakhpur.

He left Bhartiya Janta Party in the year 2016 to join Samajwadi Party on his ideological disputes with Yogi Adityanath the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.[5]

Political career

  • 2007:Elected as member of Legislative Assembly from Maniram, Gorakhpur.
  • 2012:Elected as member of legeslative Assembly from Gorakhpur Rural.
  • 2017:Contested election from Gorakpur Rural, Lost by a margin of 4,410 votes.[6]

Mr. Yadav started his political journey with B.J.P in 2007, even though he is said to have never alined with B.J.P's ideology but on request of Mahant Avaidyanath he agreed to contest on B.J.P ticket.His relations with B.J.P became bitter as Adiyanath the fielded a candidate from his party [Yuva Vahini], in the 2012 vidhan sabha election even though there was a strong opposition from Adityanath but still he stood victorious which placed him as a strong regional leader of purvanchal. During this period his closeness to Akhilesh Yadav kept growing and in controversial Rajya Sabha elections he voted for Samajwadi Party[7] candidate against B.J.P. . Impressed by the policy making of then chief minister, he resolutely stated “I voted on the basis of development done by the Chief Minister [Akhilesh Yadav] and I am ready to make any sacrifice”.
