Victor Nord

Victor Benediktovich Nord-Levin (Hebrew: ויקטור בנדיקטוביץ׳ נורד־לוין, Russian: Ви́ктор Бенеди́ктович Норд-Ле́вин, born 23 April 1945 in Moscow, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Soviet Union)[1] is an Israeli experimental underground independent filmmaker best known for his 1977 directorial debut The Garden which was screened at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival and the 1977 San Francisco International Film Festival.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Nord, son of notable Soviet theatre director and actor Benedikt Nord, immigrated to Israel from the Soviet Union in April 1973 after graduating with honors in 1971 from All-Union State Institute of Cinematography and National Film School in Łódź. He started working as assistant on film stages in Moscow while only sixteen and decided to immigrate to Israel after encountering difficulties relating to political censorship and antisemitism with producing his projects in the Soviet Union, though he nonetheless managed to work as assistant director on Sergei Bondarchuk’s 1966–1967 film War and Peace. Since 1982 he resides in New York, New York.[14][15][16][17] More recently he worked as editor on Frontline in 1984.
