Vibha Galhotra

Vibha Galhotra, born 1978 is an Indian conceptual artist based in New Delhi. Her work includes large-scale installations, sculptures, drawings, films that explore themes of ecological and environmental concerns. Her works address the shifting topography of the world under the impact of globalization and growth. She sees herself as being part of the restructuring of culture, society and geography – of New Delhi, and the world.

Early life and education

Vibha Galhotra was born in Chandigarh in 1978.[1] In 1999 she completed Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts, Chandigarh.[2] In 2002 she completed her Master in Fine arts from Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan.[2] She currently lives in New Delhi.[1]

Career

Galhotra is a conceptual artist.[3] According to Art in America, Galhotra's work is concerned with urban development, global concerns and ecological issues.[1] The Hindu has called her work about environmental issues "sharp and cutting."[4] One of her "trademark" artistic conventions is the use of ghungroos.[5]

Galhotra has been involved in international shows, such as with Europos Parkas (2001),[6] the Braziers International Artists Workshop (2006),[7] 4th International Biennale of Modern Art in Azerbaijan (2009),[8] the Contemporary Renaissance Casa Masaccio, San Giovanni Valdarno in Italy (2012),[9] at ICASTICA's inaugural exhibition (2013),[10] and in the 4th Biennial of Land Art Mongolia (2016).[11] Galhotra has also been a visiting faculty member at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi.[2]

Her work has been shown or is in the collections of the Casa Masaccio Arte Contemporanea,[12] the Singapore Art Museum,[13] Essl Museum, Austria,[2] Devi Art Foundation, India,[2] and Europas Park.[6]
