Veliki Trnovac (Serbian Cyrillic: Велики Трновац, Albanian: Tërnoc i Madh) is a town in the municipality of Bujanovac, Serbia. According to the 2002 census, the town has a population of 6762.[1] Of these, 6730 (99,52 %) were ethnic Albanians, 1 (0,01 %) Bulgarian, 1 (0,01 %) Bosniak, and 12 (0,17 %) others.[1][2][3]

Narcotics trade

According to the online Serbia media agency Telegraf (Serbia), Veliki Trnovac is a hub for narcotics trade in the region. According to the article there is an agreement between the Serbian authorities and local Albanians that Veliki Trnovac will not be attended by police in exchange for peace on the part of local population, an agreement that formed part of the Konculj Agreement in 2001. Up to 60 tonnes of narcotics pass through Veliki Trnovac annually according to the article with most of the drugs ending up in Western Europe.[4]
