Vazante is a Brazilian-Portuguese historical period drama adventure film about slavery in 1820s Brazil, directed by Daniela Thomas in her feature film debut. The film premiered in the Panorama section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.[1]

Plot

The trials and tribulations of cattle-owner Antonio following the death of his wife in child birth and marriage to his niece in 1820s Brazil.

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 86% based on 29 reviews, and an average rating of 7.2/10.[3] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 68 out of 100, based on 12 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[4]

The Hollywood Reporter described the film as 'a hushed opera that builds to a shattering climax'.[5]
