Vangathangudi aka Vengathangudi is a typical village which is close to Mannargudi, in Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu, India. It has the Vairavanathar temple and a panchayat school.

Demographics

Vangathangudi is the panchayat which includes the villages Vedapuram and Singamangalam. Vangathangudi itself has more than 300 families and nearly 900 eligible voters. Due to the delimitation now vangathangudi has become part of the Thiruthuraipoondi assembly constituency earlier it was in Mannargudi constituency. The main source of livelihood is agriculture but it is possible only for six months in a year normally from June to March due to the irrigation depends on Mettur Reservoir. The agriculture around this area mainly depends on the rivers Koraiyaru and Pamaniyar. Paddy is the principal crop which is extensively cultivated. Greengram, Blackgram, Gingelly and Cotton are also sparsely cultivated after harvesting Paddy normally from January in a year. Most of the people goes to Thiruppur, Coiambatore and Chennai to find nominal jobs during summer. It has high literacy rate than its surrounding villages.

Vangathangudi and its surroundings are rich in oil resources since it is in the Cauvery asset. ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited) has been analysing these areas for the past fifteen years and also successful in finding oil resources at Naduva Kalappal and Nallur.
