Valtimo (literally "artery") is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 2,148 (31 August 2018)[2] and covers an area of 838.07 square kilometres (323.58 sq mi) of which 37.75 km2 (14.58 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 2.68 inhabitants per square kilometre (6.9/sq mi). Neighbouring municipalities are Nurmes, Rautavaara and Sotkamo.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
