Valentina Petrenko

Valentina Aleksandrovna Petrenko (Russian: Валенти́на Алекса́ндровна Петре́нко; born August 23, 1955, Kazakh SSR[1]) is a Soviet and Russian politician, member of the Federation Council since 2001 from the Government of the Republic of Khakassia.[1] Member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy. Doctor of Education [1]

Born in Kazakhstan.[2] She is fluent in Polish, English and Spanish.[1] In 1977 She graduated from the Rostov State Pedagogical Institute majoring in teacher of biology and chemistry.

Outside of politics, she is famous for negotiating for the release of several child hostages in 1993, for which she earned the Order “For Personal Courage”. She gained minor notoriety in the English language part of the internet for her iconic hair. [2]

She is married and has one daughter.[2]

She was awarded the Order of Honour.[1]
