The University of Makati (Filipino: Unibersidad ng Makati or Pamantasan ng Makati), popularly known as UMak, is a public, locally funded city-flagship university in Makati City, National Capital Region, Philippines.

It was the first university in the Philippines to pilot the Senior High School Modelling Program of the Department of Education in 2012.

University of Makati is the country's first ISO certified local university, certified in four processes such as Admission, Registration, Releasing of Grades, and Issuance of Transcript of Records.

History

The University of Makati was established as the Makati Polytechnic Community College in 1972 through Municipal Resolution No. 242 Ordinance No. 64. Its status was elevated in 1987 to that of a full-pledged college, and was then renamed Makati College. It was merged with the former Fort Andres Bonifacio College which led to the elevation of the college to a university on January 10, 1990.[1]

By virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 433, the Pamantasan ng Makati became a chartered university on December 19, 1991 under the administration of Jejomar Binay. On August 27, 2002, City Ordinance 2002-111 was approved amending City Ordinance No. 99-126 revising the Pamantasan ng Makati Charter to change the official name of Pamantasan ng Makati to University of Makati.[1]

The university is in J.P. Rizal Extension, West Rembo, Makati. It stands on a lot near Fort Bonifacio and facing the Makati Park and Garden and Pasig River. The university consists of the Academic Building 1, 2 & 3, Administrative Building, a new-established 12-storey Health and Physical Science Building (HPSB) and the University of Makati Stadium which served as one of the venues of the United Football League and Clear Football: Dream Match. On September 19, 2018 University of Makati was a renamed as UMak Broadcasting System and Audiovisual Communicators acquired station and its an call sign DWAG 1206 khz an AM station of test broadcast

UMak-MInD Center and Dual Training System (DTS)

The UMak-Medical Informatics Development (MIND) Center program is the first and only industry-academe partnership program in the country for health informatics advocacy, training, implementation, and research and development. The UMak-MInD Center is in collaboration with E-Health Records International.

The Dual Training System (DTS) of the College of Technology Management offers a three-year multi-skilled program for Industrial Facilities Technology (IFT) since 2002. The DTS strategy was eventually adapted the four-year bachelor courses in Building Technology Management and Bachelor in Electrical Technology, which were developed in partnership with the Philippine Building Administrators' Association (PABA).

Performance in Licensure Board Examinations

Consistently, UMak's percentage of passers in the Licensure Board Exams (CPA, Nursing, Teachers, Master Electrician, etc.) is higher than the national passing rate.

UMak College of Allied Health Studies produced numerous Nurse Licensure Examination top-notchers. Denise Claudia Mangiliman and Betty Chua Chung (College of Nursing batch 2007 graduates) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the December 2007 Nursing Board.

UMak College of Accountancy created history in October 2010 as 25 accounting students passed the CPA Licensure Exam: the most CPA passers in the history of UMak in one board exam taking. In the May 2011 CPA Board Exam, 10 UMak students passed for an outstanding 50% passing rate. 19 students passed the October 2011 CPA Board Examination. Kristofferson Isar Dela Cruz was ranked fifth out of 2,132 passers with a rating of 89.43%. UMak achieved a 56% passing rate (vs. 35.78% national passing rate) in the CPA Licensure Examination in 2015 in Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legazpi.

University of Makati Broadcasting System

On October 13, 2018 University of Makati Broadcasting System is an upcoming AM radio station affiliate company of Audiovisual Communicators Its an new AM station call signs DWAG-AM after DWAN 1206 khz to be broadcast.

Sports

The University of Makati Stadium

The varsity team of the University of Makati are the UMak's Great Brave Herons. The school's athletic program participated in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) and the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Games. UMak is the 7-peat overall champion of ALCU Games. UMak is a founding member of the newest collegiate league in the country: the University, Colleges and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA).

  • Ramon Galicia, current municipal mayor of Alcantara, Romblon. Awarded last 2010 UMAK Grand Alumni Reunion as the most outstanding UMak alumni in the field of Public Service.
  • Hector U. Santos Jr., CPA, awarded last 2010 UMAK Grand Alumni Reunion as the most outstanding alumni in the field of Finance & Management. Graduated magna cum laude (2004 Valedictorian) with a BS Accountancy. Former SGV auditor and finance head of Lazada. Founder/CEO of H.U. Santos, CPA & Associates and a CPA reviewer in universities in the Philippines.
  • Rene Mostrales, head of the Government Electronics Surveillance System in Kuwait; graduate of the College of Technology Management, major in Electronics batch 1977.
  • Arthur Ignacio, sheriff in Los Angeles County, California; graduated from the College of Local Government Management, major in Political Science batch 2000.
  • Marlo Gile, a CPA reviewer in UMak and Internal Audit Head of SEA AIR Group of Companies. BS Accountancy graduate batch 2005.
