Universiti Islam Malaysia (Islamic University of Malaysia) - or UIM in short - is the first and only postgraduate-only university in Malaysia. The administration and academic offices are located in Cyberjaya with its permanent campus currently under development also in Cyberjaya. The UIM Cyberjaya Mosque with a capacity of 8,000 people is due for completion on 24 February 2015 (source: Cyberview)

UIM was originally set up in the Selangor royal town of Klang in 1955 with the consent of the Conference of Malay Rulers under the name Kolej Islam Malaya (Muslim College Malaya). With 50 first batch students including 5 female students, the most important objective of Kolej Islam Malaya was to harmonize the relationships among Malaysians of various ethnicities through a more universal style and system of Islamic teaching. At the same time, Kolej Islam Malaya sought to assist in the administration of the country since its independence in 1957.

While the College has undergone several evolutions, the spirit that led to its genesis remains very much in need. Thus, the Conference of Malay Rulers has agreed for its continuation albeit with a new identity, resulting in Islamic University of Malaysia’s (UIM’s) mandate in 2011 to replace KIM, offering only Master's and PhD's degrees. The first programme "Masters in Comparative Finance" was approved by the MQA in 2014 and will be offered starting January 2015±.

UIM's first president (since 2011) is Tan Sri Prof. Dato' Dr. Yusof Noor, a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Chairman of the Board at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Dr. Yusof was also a former federal minister from 1987-1995 and Terengganu state executive councillor 1995-1999.
