Ice hockey
The tournament was run in a round-robin format with nine teams participating. The United States was very nearly not allowed to compete due to two separate teams traveling to St. Moritz to compete in the tournament. One team was sponsored by the United States Olympic Committee, which controlled American participation in the Olympics, and the Amateur Athletic Union. The other team was sponsored by the Amateur Hockey Association, forerunner to the modern USA Hockey organization, and the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace, the contemporary name for the International Ice Hockey Federation, which controlled the qualification process and international hockey as a whole. The AAU contended that the AHA-sponsored players were being paid, which would violate the Olympic prohibition on professional athletes. The International Olympic Committee initially ruled that neither team could compete. This caused the LIHG to threaten to boycott the Games, which would effectively cancel the tournament as it was also serving as the World and European Championships. Eventually an agreement was reached to allow the AAU-sponsored team to march in the opening ceremony while the AHA-sponsored team would compete in the tournament but not be eligible for a medal. The LIHG recognized the results for World Championship purposes and the United States ended the tournament ranked fourth in those standings.

Nordic combined
The cross-country skiing part of this event was combined with the main medal event, meaning that athletes competing here were skiing for two disciplines at the same time. Details can be found above in this article, in the cross-country skiing section.
The ski jumping (normal hill) event was held separate from the main medal event of ski jumping, results can be found in the table below. Athletes would perform three jumps, of which the two best jumps (distance and form) were counted.
