United Irishman (1848 newspaper)

The United Irishman was a weekly Irish nationalist newspaper founded by John Mitchel in February 1848,[1] after he left The Nation newspaper, where he had been editor. The paper was suppressed under the Treason Felony Act (1848), and Mitchel was arrested and convicted on 26 May 1848 and sent to Van Diemen’s Land.[2]
