Ultramaraton Caballo Blanco

The Ultra Caballo Blanco (also known as Copper Canyon Ultramarathon or CCUM) is a former[1] 47-mile ultramarathon that took place in Urique, Mexico.

It was first organized in 2003 by Micah True[2] and after his death was continued by Norawas de Rarámuri.[3] The event was held annually until 2015, when it was suspended indefinitely by security concerns.[4]

The first edition, which included runners like Scott Jurek, Jenn Shelton and Christopher McDougall was novelized by McDougall as part of his 2009 book Born to Run.

Raramuri (Tarahumara) runners competing paid no fee, and upon completing each loop received vouchers for maize, beans, rice, flour and non-GMO seed corn for their families.

It also included a children's edition, named "Corrida de Los Caballitos", in which participans were awarded clothes and school supplies.

In 2015, the race was canceled the night before it was to have occurred because of concerns of drug-related gang violence in the region.
