UAE Awafi Festival
The UAE Awafi Festival is a yearly festival held in the spring that celebrates the Emirates' ethnic and cultural heritage through outdoor sporting events, theater performances, and cultural displays. A large component of the festival involves competitions to scale sand dunes in various vehicles.[1] The event is held in the Awafi area (known for its red sand dunes) in Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).[2][3]
Overview
The celebration is open to the public, who can ride four-wheeled vehicles or rent quad bikes (all-terrain vehicles – ATV). A Heritage Village show and a traditional bazaar have recently been included into the festival.[4]
Amenities
The festival includes a Heritage Village show, local arts and crafts exhibitions, a bazaar, children's play area, clinics and a police aid.[5]. There are also nearby food outlets, internet cafés, and coffee shops. The car and dune bike racing competitions are held every year in December or January.[6]
Location
The Awafi Festival is located in a wide, sand dune-filled area of about 500 square acres.
