Career

Early life

Morris was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and was brought up in Sharon, Massachusetts, for the first 9 years of his life. He initially took an interest in listening to blues and rock music at the age of 6. Tyler began focusing on the guitar as his primary passion at the age of 10. His family eventually moved to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. He often cites his dad as the main source of influence in picking up the guitar. At age 11, he began performing regularly at the C-Note Blues club in Hull, Massachusetts. Eventually, Tyler branched out into other stylistic interests and became interested in Hard Rock, Classical Music and Jazz. Tyler soon began performing as a guest player at B.B. King's Blues Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.[4]

And So It Begins

Morris began writing music at the age of 13. By the age of 14, he began exploring the possibilities of releasing an album. When Tyler was 15, he recorded his first album, "And So It Begins". This album was released in late January 2015 and was featured in the February issue of Guitar Player Magazine. The album was later featured in HeavyRiff Magazine, Korea Guitar, Vintage Guitar and other media outlets.[5][6]

The Chaos Continues

In February 2016, Morris was selected to perform in the 2016 Guitar Gods Festival along with Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Nicko McBrian, Rudy Sarzo and others.[7] On June 14, 2016, Tyler's second album, The Chaos Continues, was on Tyler Morris Music Publishing ©.[8]

Next In Line

Tyler’s next album, Next In Line, was released on February 2, 2018 through the VizzTone label group and Redeye Worldwide distribution. For this album, Tyler worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Paul Nelson (Johnny Winter) and incorporated guest appearances by Joe Louis Walker and the Uptown Horns, as well as the core band of Scott Spray on bass, Tyger MacNeal on drums, Mike Dimeo on occasional keys, and Morten Fredheim on lead vocals. "Tyler continues to develop his signature sound — channeling a classic Blues mindset into modern Rock phrasing and syncopation."- Bratgirl Media[9][10]

Next In Line debuted at number 10 on the Sirius XM B.B. King's Bluesville top 15 charts and has stayed on the top 15 in its first three weeks so far. Next In Line is also currently number 1 on the ADP Worldwide Charts.[11]

"If you think young people are more into pop than rock these days, then say hello to Tyler Morris, an astonishing, 19-year-old prodigy. He breathes fresh new life into a bluesy, classic-rock sound that used to dominate the arenas and is still vital in the hands of an acolyte like Morris. He has diligently studied all the guitar greats from Eric Clapton and Freddie King, to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The result is an incendiary mix of driving, hard-rock hooks on such originals as "Ready to Shove" and the punchy "Truth." Tyler, who enlists the powerful Morten Fredheim to belt out most of the lead vocals, is remarkably skilled for his age. He wrote all the songs except for Stevie Ray's "Willie the Wimp" (sung by guest legend Joe Louis Walker) and sounds like a seasoned pro throughout. This is an album for anyone who loves old-school rock yet worries it is obsolete. It is very much alive here."

  • Steve Morse, former staff critic at the Boston Globe for 28 years, currently teaching Rock History at Berklee College of Music

The first time I heard Tyler Morris play I was astounded at how young he was & the vastness of his feel & lick repertoire. Plus... he could transition from one to the next with complete fluidity & no effort. I hate him. Hahaha.”

  • Phil X (Bon Jovi, The Drills)

“Tyler Morris is an exciting new talent that will be around for a long time!”

  • Danny Klein (J. Geils Band)[12]
