Turn of Fortune

Turn of Fortune at night

Turn of Fortune (shi lai yun zhuan) is an unfinished centreless non-rotating Ferris wheel which began construction in Bauhinia (Zijing) Park, Changzhou, Jiangsu, China, in 2009.[1][2][3][4]

Specifications

It is 89 metres (292 ft) in height, has a diameter of 84 metres (276 ft), weighs 3000 tonnes, and cost $23.8 million (£15.5 million).[1] It was to have had 24 passenger cars, each seating 5 people and moving at 0.2 m per second, taking approximately 22 minutes to travel the entire circumference.[1][2]

Construction

Construction began in 2009, but completion was repeatedly delayed. In March 2013 construction stopped for six months while safety checks were carried out after authorities became concerned about reports of corrosion due to exposure to the elements. Work restarted after a safety assessment by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.[1]

It had been due to open in June 2013, but this was put back to October, and then postponed again.[1]
