Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India

The Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN), founded by B. S. Nagesh in 2011, is headquartered in Mumbai and partners with various other non-governmental organisation and corporate entities to provide employment opportunities, skill development to the abled and Persons with Disabilities.[1]

Organisation

Ameesha Prabhu is the chief executive officer of the trust. IL&FS Trust Company are the sole corporate trustees to the Trust.

Projects/Initiatives

TRRAIN Retail Education Programme

TRRAIN Retail education programme is a joint initiative by TRRAIN Foundation and Aptech through which they deliver training courses to people working in the Retail and Hospitality sectors. It helps the retail associates to improve their skills and the retailers to have skilled and trained staff in the front-end of the business.[2]

TRRAIN Retail Awards

Trrain Retail Awards, is an initiative aimed at judging customer service stories of retail associates in the industry.[3] The first edition of TRRAIN Retail awards was held in the year 2011 at Mumbai and the latest edition was held in the year 2013. The 2013 edition had more than 3500 retail associates participating out of which 20 Retail Associates were recognised and awarded for delivering Excellence in Customer Service.[4]

Retail Employees Day

Retail Employees day celebrated on 12 December every year, is an initiative by TRRAIN to celebrate and thank all the retail employees across the world, for their customer service. In India, Retail Employees Day is celebrated in partnership with the Retailers Association of India (RAI), where RAI encourages its member retailers to appreciate their employees through various initiatives on 12 December.[5][6][7]

Pankh-wings of destiny

PANKH – Wings of Destiny is an initiative by Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN) and Youth 4 Jobs Foundation (Y4J). The initiative aims to train people with disabilities (PwD) and provide them employment opportunities in retail industry. The initiative thus aims to create sustainable livelihoods for PwD and also promote inclusive growth in retail sector.[8][9] The programme is a 75-day residential programme, focusing on three key skills - Life Skills, English Language Skills and Retail Specific Skills. The youths are also provided 2 days of exposure visits to Malls covering various formats of retail – QSR, Hypermarket, Supermarket, Apparel store, Luxury store etc. After the 60-day classroom training sessions, the youths are provided 10–15 days of On the job training.[10]

Awards & Recognition

  • The International Housewares Association and Global Innovation Award (GIA) honored TRRAIN on 3 March 2013 in Chicago with the award for our vision of empowering people in Indian retail.[11]
  • World Education Summit 2012, New Delhi awarded TRRAIN the Best Innovation in Vocational Education & Skills Training.[12]
