Tristan Somchai Do (Thai: ทริสตอง สมชาย โด,Vietnamese: Tristan Đỗ) is a Thai-French professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Thai League 1 club Muangthong United and the Thailand national team.

Personal life

Do's father is Vietnamese-Thai and his mother is French.[2] His native language is French but he learned Thai after he moved to Pak Kret.[3] Do's paternal grandfather is Vietnamese who moved to Thailand at childhood, thus making him theoretically eligible to play for Vietnam.[4][5] He has cousins that live in Singapore.[2]

Club career

In 2014, Do joined BEC Tero Sasana, a Thai club in the Thai League 1.[2] After a year with BEC Tero Do joined Muangthong United in 2016.[6][5]

International career

Do is eligible to play for France, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Vietnam Football Federation has contacted Do to play for Vietnam U23, but Do chose to play for Thailand, the country of his father's birth.[2] In 2015, Do had appeared in friendly matches for Thailand U23. Do was part of Thailand U23's squad in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.[2] Do was called up to the Thailand squad for the first time for the friendly match against Afghanistan and 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Iraq. In September 2015, Do debuted for Thailand against Afghanistan. Subsequently, he played against Iraq in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
