Trent G. Yawney (born September 29, 1965 in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan) is a retired hockey defenceman. He is currently assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers and has previously acted as the head coach of the National Hockey League Chicago Blackhawks, the professional scout for the Anaheim Ducks, the assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks, and as assistant coach of the Anaheim Ducks. On April 23, 2018 the Anaheim Ducks announced that they were not renewing Yawney's assistant coach contract.[1]
Yawney was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, 3rd round, 45th overall. He played for the SJHL Saskatoon J's, WHL Saskatoon Blades, IHL Indianapolis Ice, the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, and St. Louis Blues and the Canadian national men's hockey team. Yawney was an assistant coach of the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1999–2000 NHL season, then head coach of the American Hockey League (AHL) Norfolk Admirals from 2000 to 2005. On July 7, 2005, Yawney was named head coach of the Blackhawks.[2] On November 27, 2006 Yawney was let go and replaced by former player and assistant coach with the Blackhawks Denis Savard.[3] On January 10, 2012 Yawney was named associate head coach of the AHL's Syracuse Crunch.[4] Yawney led the team to a 22-14-2-4 record in the final 42 games to help the Crunch clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2008.
Yawney has a wife, Charlane, and 2 kids, Ashley and Conor.
