Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC), is the government body which was established by General Ibrahim Babangida regime through Decree 3 of 1988 known as the "Town Planners Registration Decree" which has now being amended to become an Act of Parliament in 2004. It was established to protect, regulate and control the practice of the profession of urban and regional planning in all its aspects and ramifications in Nigeria.[2]

Information

The Council inducted 321 newly registered town planners at its 29th induction training workshop in Abuja in the year 2016.[3] The council in 2017 criticised the manner the resettlement of displaced persons affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-Eastern Nigeria was being handled by the Federal Government and the affected states, saying it is unplanned and poorly coordinated.[4]
