The movie- Springbok (1976)

In 1977 the University of Pretoria tried to stop this movie due to the fact that a coloured person was portrait in it. This coloured person played as a student of the University of Pretoria. South Africa was still a race segregation country in 1977. The case- Universiteit van Pretoria v Tommie Meyer Films 1977 (4) SA 376 was heard and Meyer won, and when the University appealed Meyer won again. Judge Mostert made the decision.[29] [30] [31]

The movie- Ipi Tombi (1994)

This movie was made out of the musical Ipi Tombi written by South African writers Bertha Egnos and Gail Lakier. Meyer bought the movie rights from Egnos and Brian Brooke. Meyer had financial problems with this movie and the new investors decided to use the actor Jan-Michael Vincent [32]

Personal life

He grew up in Boksburg and went to Hoërskool Voortrekker (high school) in Boksburg. Three other South African movie producers went to the same school, being Jamie Uys, Jans Rautenbach and Jan Scoltz. He married in Emmarentia Truter (which he later divorced)[33] and they had 6 children. Before producing movies he played as an actor in “Doodkry is min” (Translated: Very hard to die ).[34] This movie was produced by Jamie Uys and was released on 22 May 1961. Meyer retired in 1994. His son Pietie played the head charather in Meyer's movie Pikkie [35], assisted with the sound in Birds of Paradise [36] and was the assistant producer in Ipi Tombi .[37]
